Sindhu and Lakshya Sen win Hylo Open titles in a double for India
In 60 seconds: PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen both won singles titles at the Hylo Open in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday. Sindhu beat Denmark's eighth seed Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in 39 minutes, her second title of the season. Lakshya beat Indonesia's Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 in straight games for the men's crown. Sindhu did not drop a game all week.
Why it matters
India won both singles titles at a BWF Super 500 event. Sindhu turned a lost final into a title within a week, and the ranking points boost her bid for the season-ending World Tour Finals.
Explain it simply
Last week a near-miss, this week the gold: like failing a mock test on Sunday and topping the real one next Sunday.
The 3-minute read
What happened
Second seed Sindhu, ranked world No. 8, controlled both games against world No. 25 Kjærsfeldt. Lakshya led throughout the second game and won on his first championship point after a Christie net error.
Background
Sindhu won the Japan Open in July and lost the French Open final last week. Lakshya was runner-up at the All England Championships this year; he trailed Christie 3-4 in head-to-head before the final.
How it works
The Hylo Open is a Super 500 event on the BWF World Tour. Winners earn ranking points; the top players on the season's points list qualify for the World Tour Finals.
