UP launches Sardar Patel skill and employment zones, starting in five districts with all 75 to follow
In 60 seconds: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has launched a scheme to set up Sardar Patel skill and employment zones in all 75 districts of the state. Each zone will register young people, train them in skills that local industry needs, and help place them in jobs under one roof. The first phase covers five districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur, followed by all 18 divisional headquarters.
Why it matters

Training will include skills for jobs abroad, such as the language of the destination country, along with food processing, like making ghee, butter and paneer from milk. College students can train for a few hours a day alongside their studies.
Background
The scheme was launched on the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Yogi said UP had given direct government jobs to more than 9.5 lakh young people in the past nine and a half years.
How it works
Industry partners help run the zones. In Gautam Buddh Nagar the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority is building the centre with Tata, and in Gorakhpur the local industrial authority has joined.

After the first five districts, zones will come up at all 18 divisional headquarters and then in every district, as land becomes available.
